Buses from Kangra

Road transport in Kangra is highly developed. Buses from the New Bus Stand, located at the centre of the city, ply to different destinations throughout the year. Mainly three categories of buses are found to be running from Kangra. They are as follows:

• HRTC Buses: Himachal Road Transport Corporation or HRTC is a big player in this field. They ply various types of buses to different destinations in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Delhi on daily basis.
  
  
• Punjab Roadway Buses:  Buses belonging to Punjab Road Transport Corporation also ply from Kangra, especially on Kangra Pathankot route. Most of these buses run from Pathankot to Dharamshala stopping at Kangra for a short break.
  
  
• Private Buses: Other than these two state own Corporations, there are a number of private road transport companies who ply different categories of buses to different destinations from Kangra.
  
  

HRTC Buses in Kangra

However, most of the buses that ply from Kangra belong to HRTC.  While one can book tickets online through their website, the Corporation also has an advance booking center located at the Kangra Bus Stand.  For any information regarding the bus services, passengers are also welcome to contact them at 1892-265-129 and 1892-264-948.

The Corporation has different types of buses in its fleet. Among them, Volvo buses are the most comfortable ones. These buses also have laptop and mobile chargers fitted inside the buses for the use of the passengers. The buses that ply between Kangra and Delhi generally belong to this category.  Other than the Volvo buses there are the ISUZU buses, Deluxe buses, Semi Deluxe buses, Ordinary buses etc.

Bus Services from Kangra to Delhi

HRTC runs three buses from Kangra to Delhi (ISBT Kashmir Gate). They leave Kangra at 07:10 PM, 7:35 PM and 8:35 PM respectively. All these buses follow different routes and the fare is approximately Rs. 1060 per person. There is also number of private buses plying from Kangra to Delhi. However, they charge slightly higher. For example, Kanak Holidays charge Rs. 1149 for the same distance.

Interstate Bus Services from Kangra

Other than Delhi, Kangra is also connected to various places outside Himachal Pradessh by an efficient fleet of buses. Buses from Kangra ply to Pathankot, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Ambala, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Ganganagar, Haridwar etc. In this respect, Pathankot, being the broad gauge railhead for the entire area assumes special significance.

Various types of buses ply to and from Pathankot throughout the day.  Although there is a system of advance booking, tickets are generally available over the counter.  Moreover, if you miss one bus, there will be another one leaving shortly. One more important point is that, if you try online and find that all tickets have been sold, do not feel disheartened. Not all seats are offered online; some are set aside for over the counter purchase.

Intrastate Bus Services from Kalka

Buses from Kangra also ply to different cities within Himachal Pradesh. Traveling by bus to Shimla for instance is quite convenient. Apart from one Volvo and one Deluxe buses, HRTC also ply number of ordinary buses from Kangra to Shimla. While the Volvo bus leaves Kangra at 8: 20 PM and cost around Rs. 872 the Ordinary buses generally ply throughout the day and depending upon the route taken, it may cost anything between Rs. 326 to Rs. 447. The Deluxe Bus traveling via Hamirpur cost Rs. 419; it leaves Kangra at 10:10 PM. There are also number private buses traveling from Kangra to Shimla. In general, the first bus to leave for Shimla is around 6: 30 AM while last bus leaves the town at 10:10 PM.

If, on the other hand, you want to visit nearby cities such as Dharamtala, Palampur, Baijnath, Nurpur, Hamirpur etc you will have plenty buses plying on these routes. In fact, the long distance buses that ply through Kangra also cover these places.
