Water Supply in Kangra

Municipal Council of Kangra is responsible for supply of drinking water within its jurisdiction. However, they are assisted in this work by both the state and central government. While the state government has approved number of plans, which aims to augment water supply to different places in Kangra District, the Central Government has approved a plan that aims at providing 24-hours water supply to this town. The estimated cost of this project is around 17.44 Crores and it is hoped that the work will be completed by end of 1014 or beginning of 2015. It is to be noted that the scheme has been planned keeping in mind the estimated demand of clean drinking water till 2045. 

The scheme will have a main storage tank of 22.50 lakh liters water capacity, 10 water tanks with 27.17 lakh liters water capacity and a collection tank with 14.23 lakh liters water capacity. The source of the water is going to be three tube wells located at Mata Kaa Baag, Jogipur and Polytechnic Kangra. However, all these are future plans. Sanitation in Kangra

Sanitation in Kangra is also given its due importation. It may not be out of place to note that it is not only Kangra, but whole of Himachal Pradesh is slowly moving towards total sanitation. In Kangra, the government has taken up different projects to ensure that the resident can lead a healthy life. Rs 4 crore has already been spent on zone I of Kangra sewerage scheme. Zone II will be completed in all respects by the end of 2014. Moreover, solid waste management also gets special priority in Kangra. The garbage is regularly collected from various parts of the town and the solid waste so collected is converted into fertilizers by the Municipal Council.
